Slim with Skim


Chugging about two glasses of fat-free milk right after a sculpting session (and again an hour later) helped women shed more fat and gain more muscle than those who drank the same 160 calories in a carb-only beverage, according to research at McMaster University in Ontario. The milk drinkers lost 3.5 pounds of fat and added about four pounds of muscle in 12 weeks. "That translates into a big change in your health and appearance," says lead researcher Stuart Phillips, Ph.D. Milk's magic is mostly due to its vitamin D and calcium, which help cells release stored fat, and its protein, which can build muscle.
